[REVIEW] SKINFOOD AVOCADO RICH CREAM

I’m sure we’ve seen a large number of products made with fruit and vegetables based ingredients, they also made a huge entrance into the beauty industry in the past couple of years. SKINFOOD was probably the first well-known K-beauty brand to come up with products like this. I was always intrigued by the concept of these kinds of products; They have their peach, celery, black pomegranate, royal honey/propolis, and etc lines. The one product that really stood out to me as of recently was their avocado line. I absolutely love avocadoes, they taste delicious and they are packed in nutrients that can provide the skin fantastic benefits as well!

SKINFOOD has been repackaging a lot of their products so if you noticed my bottle doesn’t look like yours, don’t be alarmed. They changed the appearance of their packaging just a tad bit.

Key Ingredients

All of these key ingredients are non-comedogenic (will not clog your pores).

Avocado oil is packed with fatty acids that are fantastic for providing skin moisture while being nourishing.

Olive oil is an incredible multi-use ingredient. It can be used as an eye, lip makeup remover, mask, facial oil and moisturizer. It has moisturizing, antibacterial and antioxidants.

Macadamia Seed Oil has anti-aging benefits and can deeply soothe and moisturize the skin. It’s also known for treating against skin irritation and inflammation.

Shea Butter is great for softening and repairing the skin. It can mimic the moisturizer in sebum. Thus, it convinces the skin into believing that it has enough sebum and helps slow down the process of the overproduction of sebum. It also can help out on skin discoloration by evening out the skin’s overall appearance.

*bold = nice ingredients, italics = to be aware of.

Ingredient List:

Water, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Fruit Extract, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Diphenylsiloxy Phenyl Trimethicone, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Behenyl Alcohol, Glucose, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate, Cetearyl Glucoside, Sodium Hyaluronate, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Arginine, 1, 2-Hexanediol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance

My Skin Type and concerns:

Combination | PIE | Congested | Dehydrated | (Occasionally) Sensitive

My thoughts

I found this extremely moisturizing and nourishing, it does exactly what I imagined it to do. The only draw back I wanted to mention on here about this product is for those who are irritated or allergic to avocado, please do a patch test prior to application. Avocado Oil is generally fantastic for those who struggle with eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and also, acne. I also didn’t like that they added fragrance to this but because it is the last ingredient for this product, I’m not exactly against it. If they went for an unscented option, I think this product would be enjoyed by many. In case you were wondering what this smells like, it has a baby lotion-like scent but it fades really fast upon application.

Overall

  • Texture: 5/5 – Surprisingly enough, this is a thicker toner but it also runny so it’s a cross hybrid between a creamy, milky toner with a slight watery consistency to it. I like this toner for winter because it’s great alone and beautiful when layered with other products.
  • Scent: 4/5 – It’s okay, I don’t mind the scent but it does have a baby lotion smell but nothing too strong and unbareable.
  • Price: 5/5 – Okay, when I got this product – it was only $22 but Yesstyle is currently selling this for an outrageous price. I would suggest to check back when Yesstyle has inventory of this or another retailer because it shouldn’t be $50+. I personally would never spend $30+ on a toner because it’s a toner! Lots of affordable options available in the market. If you’re looking for another option, I would suggest the Laneige Cream Skin Refiner.
  • Performance: 5/5 – Nice! I have zero complaints with this, my skin feels hydrated and moisturized. It’s a great option for the drier and colder seasons.
  • Packaging: 3/5 – Could be better. The stopper is a bit hard to dispense out any product and you’ll find yourself shaking the crap out of this to get any product out. I just wish they added a pump or something rather than a stopper for this kind of product.
  • Overall: 4/5 – I like it! Not sure if I would repurchase it but it’s worth a shot if you’re looking for a new toner to try out. This one would be great for those who have dehydrated/dry, normal and combo skin types. I don’t think oil folks would enjoy this one very much.

REVIEW: THE SAEM ICELAND HYDRATING EYE STICK

Nothing is more satisfying that receiving mail and opening packages with products inside you ordered or that is sent to you. I’ve seen this eye stick around for years before I’ve made the decision that I wanted to try it. Special thanks to Jolse for sending this over to me to review for you, friends! This review has been long over due but last year alone was SUPER hectic for me and even this year so now I’m catching up with reviews to share with you all!

My Thoughts:

The concept of this eye stick is to refresh and re-hydrate the skin under and around the eyes. Personally, I was never a huge fan of The Saem skincare products due to their high usage of fragrances and this product was no exception. I gave it a chance simply because of the adorable packaging and a lot of my skincare peers on Instagram featured this specific product on their routines so I wanted to give it a shot. I found this product poorly executed because it’s not hygienic to constantly reapply product that has previously touched your face from time over to time; I’m sure bacteria will eventually accumulate and grow in the product. I also did not understand why they used fragrance in this because fragrance can be very irritating to the skin and let alone having it anywhere near the eyes, that could possibly irritate the sensitive eye area and cause milia/irritation.

  • Texture: 4/5 – Super smooth consistency and applies on skin at ease, it also gives a nice little cooling effect under the eyes. Those who do not have sensitive skin and sensitive skin around the eye area, may enjoy this product.
  • Price: 5/5 – Price is amazing! Super affordable and is currently $8.76 USD on Jolse’s website.
  • Performance: 1/5 – Didn’t do much for me and I wouldn’t use this in the long run. It’s just not something I would grab even if there were a pile of products in front of me.
  • Packaging: 3/5 – Amazing for aesthetics! Super cute and iconic. However, the product packaging function and for long term use is not ideal – likely will harvest bacteria, dirt and oil if constantly reapplied on the face. Just not the greatest for function-wise.
  • Overall: 2/5 – Would not repurchase, I can’t see this being practical for anyone’s skincare routine. Therefore, I cannot recommend it however, if you’re interested of trying this anyway, they do have a sale right now on their website and you can purchase it here.

I’m sure most of us are exhausted and hoping COVID restrictions are lifted so that we can enjoy our normal day lives. Til then, I hope you all take good care of yourselves and stay safe!

Holika Holika: Love Who You Are Palette Review + Swatches

It’s been a long while since I’ve done a makeup product review on my blog so here it is! This is the Holika Holika Limited Edition: Love Who You Are Eyeshadow Palette. Jolse kindly gifted me this a while back to review for you all. Because of COVID, I have not been wearing much or any makeup nor have I’ve been inspired to do any eyeshadow looks. I finally gave this palette a shot and used it during the holidays and this week so I’m ready to share with you how I feel about it.

My Thoughts:

I use to not gravitate towards K-Beauty eyeshadows because I found them too sheer for my liking but I’ve grown to really enjoy them for what they are, how natural and buildable they can be. I also find K-Beauty shimmer shadows waaaay better than western eyeshadows as they come in a nice variety of fine to bigger shimmers/glitters. This palette most certainly impressed me for it’s performance alone and with primer. It can pretty much last all day without primer and looks roughly the same from application time; very minimal creasing to no creasing without primer. There’s a good variety of transition shades that are matte and shimmers to play around with. Majority of the shimmer shades have that gorgeous multi-dimensional appearance to them. The camera does not go any justice for this palette and you need to see them in person to believe it for yourself. They’re sparkly but not in an obnoxious way and can be used as an everyday palette!

  • Texture: 5/5 – Formula is dense and almost creamy to the touch, you can use brushes or your fingers. I personally find finger application best for shimmer shades as you can build it up and it has better even application when doing so.
  • Price: 4/5 – It’s currently listed $24.79 USD | $31.63 USD on Jolse, which is somewhat expensive for an eyeshadow palette but the pans are MUCH better than most eyeshadow palettes around this price so you are getting your money’s worth when purchasing this. There’s also 13.5g of product in it so it will last you a while even if you use it as an “everyday palette”. I would prefer this over the Anastasia Beverly Hills Palette that everybody loves – I personally have grown out from loving their palettes and find their formula DRY.. it’s like a dry pigment even and I prefer more creamy, dense formulas such as this palette.
  • Performance: 4/5 – I’m very impressed with the longevity of this palette as it survived through an 8 hour shift and I could skip primer if I wanted to with this one.
  • Packaging: 5/5 – Super cute, iconic. Love the colours and it most certainly grabbed my attention.
  • Overall: 4.5/5 – I’m pretty happy with this palette! I have no complaints about it and I see myself using it a lot during this coming fall because look at these colours! They’re gorgeous and so versatile for all year round.

Mini BEAUTY Holiday Gift Guide

Holidays are upon us, decorations are either being put up or already up, people are likely blasting the holiday music playlists on their Spotify. This Christmas will be a different one from previous years as we are social distancing and only allowed to see family members within the household, Christmas parties won’t be as crowded as they usually are but I’m sure some of us are still buying gifts for our loved ones either mailing it or dropping it off to them. I’m sure most of us already know how challenging it can be shopping for some of our friends or family members. I wanted to do a cute little beauty gift guide for your family and friends. This is a budget-friendly one so it most certainly won’t break the bank.

YARDLEY Fragrances

These come in a beautiful range of scents to choose from. I know fragrance preferences can very subjective but I can assure you – there is a good range for you to select from. I only have 3 here to share with you today but YARDLEY does offer body sprays and fragrance mists. These beautiful perfumes are Eau De Toilette, Eau De Toilette means that the fragrance inside will be much more concentrated than your traditional fragrance mist, body mist and Eau De Parfum.

Here are the descriptions for each Fragrance:

All of these fragrances contain 90% naturally derived ingredients and a vegetable derived alcohol base. Cruelty Free and suitable for vegans.

Lavender

A beautifully fresh, light, elegant fragrance with top notes of bergamot and clary sage with a heart of calming English Lavender subtly combining notes of eucalyptus, geranium, jasmine, chamomile and violet, enhanced with deeper, warm base noes of wood, vanilla and patchouli.

ENGLISH ROSE

A refreshing, light floral fragrance with sparkling citrus and rose top notes and a heart subtly combining rose bud, magnolia, violet and cassis with warm woody notes, whilst patchouli and musks add velvety tones to the base.

LILY OF THE VALLEY

A light, feminine white floral fragrance with fruit pear accords in the top note and a beautiful floral bouquet heart that blends lily of the valley and freesia, enhanced with a pretty, musky base.

These are available on their official website are currently on sale  £9.99 | $ 17 CAD, which is really affordable because you get 125ml of product for a really affordable price. Eau De Toilette fragrances are usually more expensive as the concentration is more potent and has a powerful longevity. Fragrances are often very expensive and marked up but I found these reasonably priced. You also can find their products at Shoppers Drug Mart.
You can find this beautiful set at Well.ca | Shoppers Drug Mart | London Drugs | Their Official Website.

Makeup tools, brushes and sponges will never go out of style or trend because a lot of us use these to apply on our makeup. These Real Technique Sparkle-On-The-Go brushes and sponge set is perfect for not only travelling but they don’t accumulate too much space and the brush handles can stand on their own. Growing up, I’ve used Real Technique sponges and I can confidently say that they’re just as good as beauty blenders. Real Technique sponges have soft and beautiful synthetic bristles. I really like the design for these and how compact they are. I think they would make an excellent gift for any makeup lover – beginner or intermediate, these will be loved.

That’s it for now, friends. Stay tuned until next time.

Bath time, self care time!

Special thanks to Brill Communications for sending out such an adorable little package. The package consists of 2 Me Bath bath bombs, a cute blue IKEA towel and a mermaid mask. I know how stressful it can be living life in quarantine but hang in there, friends. Remember to wear a mask, social distance and be kind. 🙂

Work has been hectic as per usual so I like to indulge and treat myself to a nice warm bath from time to time. I can never have too many bath bombs because I go through them quite frequently during the colder seasons. These bath bombs from Me Bath come in a nice range of colours and scents to choose from. They are relatively a new brand so expect to see more variety added in the future. These retail for $4.99 each and are available at Shoppers Drug Mart.

The two bath bombs I received were:

Mystic Mermaid – which has a fantastic aquatic scent and adds a gorgeous aqua-blue hue to your bath water. It’s very fitting to the theme and makes the whole bath experience more fun and exciting.

Unicorn Magic has a delicious sweet, fruity scent and it gives out a nice, bright neon pink hue to your bath water.

Bath time paired with a nice beverage of your choice, a book or even streaming your favourite shows always helps you unwind and puts everything else on pause. It’s a nice little treat you can give yourself. Bath bombs can be pretty expensive and range between 6 to 10 dollars so it’s nice to see Me Bath make the effort to create an affordable option.

With bath time, you can customize and amp up the experience by adding a bubbles or even some bath salts, the options are quite endless! Be sure to not have your bath water scorching hot because you’re going to irritate and dry out your skin. And try not to stay in for too long because your fingers and toes may prune up. I think disclaimers like these can be helpful since I almost never hear anyone mention these sorts of things. It’s good to take precautions and remember to enjoy your self care time!

Luscious Hair with Luseta Hair

Earlier of this year, I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to become one of Luseta’s brand ambassadors and I was thrilled! I kept seeing their products all over my feed and explore page so it was very exciting to work with a popular and well known hair brand.

All Luseta products are sulfate, phosphate and carbon-free. ♡

Growing up, my hair was very thick and strong but as I aged, I noticed my hair has become a lot more weak, thinner even. It’s likely because of aging and diet. My diet isn’t the best so I need to work on that. You’d be surprised how much diet plays a role in your everyday life and overall appearance aside from just your overall physique. Skin and hair are affected by poor eating habits.

The first set of products I tried from Luseta was their Hemp Oil complex line. I no longer have the shampoo and conditioner because I used them but I highly reccomend this line to those who have thin hair and split ends. This line did a superb job making my hair less tangled and also made it feel a lot stronger. My boyfriend suffers from alopecia in the front of his head and he even found this line really gentle on scalp while leaving it refreshed and soft. He’s very picky with hair care so that compliment says a lot.

The Hemp Oil complex line is formulated with 3 beautiful key ingredients that helps stimulate, soothe and moisturize your scalp.

• HEMP OIL is excellent for most skin types as it is non-comdegenic (won’t clog your pores) and it helps balance out oily skin/scalps by hydrating and maintaining skin’s oil production.

• PEPPERMINT is commonly used in a lot of hair products that claims to stimulate hair growth/scalp care and etc. It also known to have fantastic antiseptic and antibacterial qualities. Please be aware that you will feel a slight tingling, cooling sensation when using products with this ingredient.

• GREEN TEA is an overall fantastic ingredient used for many purposes – anti aging and weightloss. For hair care in particular, this is great for combating against dry scalp and dandruff.

Alright onto the products that I do still have and have also been enjoying. They recently replenished my Luseta supply with their Collagen and Biotin line. This line is just so luxurious because they choose to use two of the most popular ingredients you see in supplements in our hair care.

HEMP OIL COMPLEX STRENGTHENING DUO

WHERE TO BUY – click on the links below and be redirected 🙂

Their biotin and collagen line consists of a wonderful blend of powerful ingredients from Vitamin b7 biotin, hydrolyzed collagen and argan oil; All these ingredients are perfect for restoring necessary nutrients into every strand while plumping collagen adds dimension and volume into the hair for a thicker, fuller and healthier appearance.

BIOTIN is commonly found in supplements to help with hair growth and fight against hair thinning.

Collagen has amazing benefits for the skin, hair and body. For hair, it helps build and strengthen hair proteins. It also may prevent against follicle damage and greys.

* in my opinion, greys can be caused by multiple factors such as stress, hereditary so it’s almost difficult for me to believe that entirely but I wanted to add my thoughts on this.

I found this specific set did an incredibly job moisturizing my scalp and hair. Often times a lot of shampoo products do dry out my hair and causing a lot of flyaways and I found this shampoo really great for moisturizing, softening and leaving my hair feeling so clean. Their conditioner pairs well with this shampoo as it leaves my hair feeling silky soft and lightweight while being nourishing.

Overall, I’m impressed with Luseta hair care products, they honestly are salon grade quality and top of the line products. I don’t think I’ll purchase any of hair care product because these work for me. I actually went ahead and purchased their apple cider clarifying conditioner to try out and I’m excited to see how that goes. 🙂 I highly recommend you guys to try out their products, you will not disappointed!

FINESSE HYDRATION + SOFTNESS SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER

Haircare is very crucial and can be difficult to maintain. I use to neglect my hair when I was younger and it really caught up to me because now my hair is dry and damaged. I would bleach and dye my hair all sorts of colours because I wanted to be bold and expressive with my look but it really took a toll on my hair. Regardless if it was done at the salon or box hair dye, it did a lot of damage. Not to mention, I wasn’t on top with getting my regular haircuts to allow my hair to grow evenly and be more healthy. Nowadays, I’m more cautious and I ensure I take very good care of hair. I try to wash my hair every other day or wait longer so I don’t overwash or dry out my scalp, I also have been using a lot of hair oils (Moroccan, Argan, Coconut and Camellia oil).

I wanted to give out a special thanks to Carolina for sending over these amazing goodies for me to try and share with you all! She sent over Finesse’s new and revamped hydration & softness shampoo & conditioner duo and also some adorable hair accessories from Scunci.

I personally go through Conditioner quite fast so it’s also nice to get a replenishment and something new to try out. I’ve seen Finesse before but I’ve actually never tried anything from their brand before so this is all quite exciting to me.

Product Claims

  • These two products are enriched with Camellia oil, which is a really nourishing and hydrating oil that can retain moisture within the hair strands and provide hydration. It also is very fast absorbing so it won’t weigh down your hair!
  • These two products synergize and work together to form a protective barrier against damaging pollutants. I’m sure most days, if not every day, we are exposed to UV rays and environmental pollutants that can cause physical harm and damage to the hair – to prevent these from occurring and doing any further damage, we find products to protect it.
  • Available at your local grocery stores and mass retailers across Canada for UNDER $4. Now that my friends is a steal and quite worth trying because you can’t go wrong with trying out affordable products.

Last but not least, Carolina also included some adorable little hair accessories by the Brand called Scunci. I love hair scrunchies and I pretty much wear one or two around my wrist daily because you just never know when you need to tie up your hair. Pamper Yourself with Dr. Teal’s Vitamin C Line

After a long day of work, I’m sure most of us want to sit back, relax, and unwind. There’s really no better way to unwind than having a nice bubble bath. Growing up, baths were never a thing for me because my parents thought it was a waste of water. Only recently I got into them and let me tell you, it is a luxury! This couldn’t have come a better time because I recently received some bath goodies in the mail to share with you all!

Bath products can be pretty expensive and they can add up. I mean, look at Lush for instance! Sure, their packaging and products look appealing but the price tag for each item? No thanks! I’m all about looking for budget-friendly options.

They have a wonderful blend of ingredients that can nourish, hydrate, and brighten the skin. The key ingredients are shea butter, aloe vera, Vitamin E, and also Vitamin C.

What are bath salts, what are they used for and how do you use them?

Dry Skin? No worries, I found the perfect trio

As many of you may already know, it’s currently winter transitioning to spring in Canada but it’s still extremely dry outside – My skin needs all the help it can get. I wanted to share 3 products I use back to back to ensure I never ever have to come across dry, reptile-like skin. The Bioderma shower oil and also the atoderm creme. I’ve been using Bioderma sensibio for many, many years but I have never ventured out to try out their other products until recently. They sent over these two for me to try out and let me tell you, I’ve already finished both the shower oil and atoderm creme.

s-l300

How to use: Shower Oil

So the concept of this is quite unique since I’ve never used any product like this before. You use this in the shower, apply it onto the skin and massage.  It dispenses out like a silky, rich body oil but lathers up a little bit and becomes into a soft foam. The moment it comes into direct contact with the wet skin, it forms a strong protective barrier for the skin and you can visibly see and feel it when using it. I rinse the remaining product off my body and dry my body for the next step.

Once my body is dry, I apply a thick layer of the atoderm creme all over my body and ensure I massage the cream thoroughly as I do not want any white residue behind. If you own these two products, repeat these steps every single day after your shower and you will notice a significant difference in your overall skin feel. I am very guilty for taking scorching hot showers and drying the crap out of my skin and I use to be very guilty for neglecting my body and not applying creams after my showers. I’ve only started making the changes roughly 2 years ago and it has changed my life forever. No more dry skin days and also no more scaley, reptile-like skin because that was just gross.

3570800I follow up with the atoderm creme and it’s just the divine. It’s a thick, whipped consistency that glides beautifully on the skin and moisturizes it while protecting the barrier. I never have to deal with reptile skin whenever I use these two together because they synergize so well together. The two main nourishing ingredients they use for this is vaseline and glycerin. This softens the skin while providing long-lasting moisture.

During uncertain times, I’m sure many of us are taking the extra precautions as needed to fight against this virus and protecting ourselves so I’m guessing some of you are on consciously washing your hands more frequently. I definitely am and not ashamed of it. However, I found that my hands got a lot more drier from doing so I’ve started to use the atoderm hand creme and let me tell you, folks, this stuff means business. It reminds me of the atoderm body cream except it’s a lot thicker and really protects the hands from any moisture loss. This little guy comes in 50ml but you need half a pea size for both hands and it should last you a while before you need replenishment. 72236

I’m so impressed by Bioderma’s products and I’ve been using their products for years. They’ve always surpassed my expectations and I will continue to purchase from them. If you’re in Canada, you can find their products at Shoppers Drug Mart.
