[REVIEW] MAY ISLAND Whitening Capsule Illuminating Pearl Cream

Hello friends, I hope you all had a fantastic start to your week. I wanted to come on here and share another beautiful tone-up cream that I have been using this past month or so. Firstly, can we just take a moment to appreciate the aesthetics of this gorgeous packaging? It’s bright and has a lovely clean design. If you are following me on Instagram, you probably already know I have an addiction to collecting capsule based products. The primary reason why I like them so much is the appearance (of course) and secondly how amazing the concept is. Special ingredients are stored in these capsules and disperse when you spread it on your skin. I don’t know about you but I find it really makes the product more fun!

This product was kindly gifted to me through Beauty Box Korea. They are an online based K-Beauty shop and sell a wide range of products from skincare, beauty, household products, and even jewelry. I highly recommend you to head over there and check them out. You will not be disappointed with what they have to offer. Most of the time when I’m looking for the new K-Beauty releases, I usually check there first!

Available on: Beauty Box Korea | Amazon

Ingredients: cosDNA

The ingredient list appears to be quite mild for the most part; there is a big range of hydrating ingredients such as glycerin, betaine, green tea extract and etc.  Niacinamide is on the top set of the ingredients and that is perfect for skin brightening. I was quite surprised that there were anti-inflammatory ingredients such as Centella Asiatica and Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract. Both of these are fantastic for soothing and calming down skin inflammation. On the packaging, it does not state the amount of SPF in this however there is titanium dioxide in this; which is used as pigment but also an active ingredient in sunscreen that can protect against the sun’s UV rays.

*I highly recommend you all to always check the ingredients prior to purchasing anything and be sure to do swatch tests on your wrists because you just do not want to risk a negative skin reaction, especially on your face.

  • Texture: 5/5 – This is a really lovely capsule based gel cream – the consistency is almost weightless and the capsules inside are very soft to the touch; making it very easy to spread and for them to disperse evenly into the skin.
  • Scent: 5/5 –The scent is a clean, floral scent. It’s soft and eventually does fade away so for those who dislike lingering and strong scents, this is definitely a nice tone-up cream to try.
  • Price: 5/5 – I think it’s a reasonable amount to charge for a tone up cream. Sure, there are many more affordable tone-up creams out there but it honestly varies on your budget at the end of the day. You’re paying for the beautiful packaging and I personally believe this cream will last you a while before you need replenishment of it. You only really need a pea size everything you apply this on your face.  The real question consumers should ask themselves prior to purchasing a product is “how much use will get out from this?” and “how often will I use this?”; This applies for everything.
  • Performance: 4/5 – The longevity of this product will vary between 5-8 hours of wear. Be sure to blot your makeup periodically otherwise it will start to separate your makeup. I would not recommend this as an overall body tone-up cream simply because it wears off quite easily and does not really last through multiple hand washes. I would say it would last through 1-2 hand washes before it’s completely gone. As for my face, it lasted for a while and it did a fantastic job holding my makeup and also creating an even, brighter looking complexion.
  • Packaging: 5/5 – BEAUTIFUL! I always will appreciate gorgeous packaging and you guys already know I really appreciate the science and appearance behind these capsule based type of products because they’re innovative, advanced and aesthetically pleasing to look at.
  • Overall: 4/5 – It’s a neat concept and product. I would recommend this for those who are looking for a product that specifically can brighten up their skin tone by a foundation shade. When using this product, please ensure you apply sunscreen prior to application because you will still need your daily SPF protection. It’s extremely important to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. This product did not break me out however I would highly recommend you to do your research on ingredients prior to purchasing and using things like this and this applies to all products. Not everyone’s skin type is alike so it’s better to be safe than sorry. Overall, I did very much enjoy this and will continue to use this.

This contains an antioxidant green energy complex including chlorophyll – which gives it that brilliant green hue ~ it also can energize fatigue skin and protect it from environmental damage. This dispenses out as a green hue but it will turn into a beige colour.

Star ingredient:

Centella Asiatica Extract (Cica): is a plant-based ingredient that has multiple healing properties. The extract is rich with amino acids, fatty acids and etc that can help treat and prevent acne, calming down skin inflammation and promote collagen growth.

Skin background & Skin lesson:

Combination | PIE | Congested | Dehydrated | (Occasionally) Sensitive

Growing up, I use to think to cover up my flaws with a lot of foundation and concealer and that would make me feel better. My skin was never bad, however, I did have a terrible habit where I would scratch my face and it would turn into scabs, then it would scar. I think I learned a very valuable lesson when coming across these sorts of things because I was able to see the reality of what damage that could do to my skin.

From my late teen years to maybe when I was around 22, I was all about high coverage makeup that made my skin looked flawless. As I gradually got back into K-beauty, I realized I should be taking care of my skin and start preventing it from getting any worse than it is now. The first thing I started to include in my routine was to wear sunscreen regularly. I know, the sunscreen application can be a nuisance and texture of it can be uncomfortable at times. What’s worse? Protecting your skin and feeling uncomfortable temporarily or not then regretting it later on in life? You decide.

If you own any SPF powder and sprays, those are definitely not enough protection and you would need to apply an enormous amount of it for it to come into effect. I highly suggest you invest in a good sunscreen that is catered best for your skin. No two skin types are alike so just experiment around with mineral, physical and chemical sunscreens; check the ingredients and educate yourself what they can do your skin.

Now that my skin has recovered tremendously, I plan to protect it from here on and I’ve been wearing less and less makeup every day to work because I really don’t need it anymore. I’m sure most of us know that PIE never really goes away so I rely on products like this to neutralize my redness.

My thoughts:

I was so stoked to get this product because this is not available on Sephora Canada. I’ve seen a few of my American Instagram friends were featuring this product on their stories and I was so intrigued by the product. I really like this as a foundation alternative because it’s lightweight and provides me the perfect amount of coverage. The coverage for this is between light to medium; the finish of this is very dewy, your skin will look radiant and also very much like your skin! I love how natural this is and I even received compliments that my skin looks so good and “glossier model-like”. Which is an amazing compliment for me because I have always drooled over how gorgeous their skin looks! My biggest concern with this product was that it would oxidize or colour correct into an inaccurate shade for my skin. I’ve relatively pale so my foundation shades are (for you to reference off of):
K-Beauty: #21
Mac: NC15, NC20
NARS: Gobi
Sometimes universal shades/colour correcting products can be quite hit or miss with me so I’m glad this worked out in the end for me because I am a huge fan of Dr.Jart+ products and I don’t think they’ve ever failed me except the water drop cream. Now that, was a heck of a gimmicky product. It looked gimmicky and it was (Sorry, wasn’t for me!).

Overall:

  • Texture: 4/5 – This has a really unique texture to it. It is thick but as you massage it in your skin, it turns into this lightweight oil-serum texture. It first appears to look like a watered-down green paste but quickly turns into beige when you massage it in your skin. I think it does a great job naturally neutralizing away skin redness.
  • Scent: 5/5 – There is a slight scent to this but nothing I can really pinpoint what it is. It doesn’t linger and quickly goes away. According to the ingredients, there are essential oils in this and I’m assuming it’s to make the product smell more pleasant. The essential oils are lavender, grapefruit peel, rosemary and etc. If you are sensitive to essentials oils or scents, please use this with caution and also, be sure to do a swatch test prior to face application.
  • Price: 3/5 – I think it’s a tad pricey but Dr. Jart+ products tend to be on the pricier side of things. I see them as the “boujee K-Beauty” but I think it’s worth investing in if you suffer from redness and don’t really want to wear foundation. It’s a fantastic foundation substitute!
  • Performance: 5/5 –I’ve worn this with sunscreen and without on a 9-hour day shift and my face looked so good even after the end of the day. No separation, pilling or splotches. It looks fantastic! I would recommend you to blot throughout the day because I found myself kinda shiny when I didn’t. It really acts as a lightweight, weightless consistency leaving my skin look and feel natural. I only need about 2-3 drops to cover my entire face and it really makes a huge difference on the overall texture of appearance of my face. Firstly, I noticed how bright my complexion appeared and it even had that radiant glow from within. It is so beautiful!
  • Packaging: 4/5 – Practical, simple – I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get the excess product when I’m close to the end of the product but we will see…
  • Overall: 5/5 –  I love this! It acts as a second skin and is so moisturizing. It feels very comfortable to wear and can be worn with makeup. I would highly recommend you to this a go; I’m not quite sure how this would perform on deeper skin tones simply because it claims that this is marketed as a colour correcting serum from green to beige. I would most likely repurchase this because I’m all about the less is more type of look and I absolutely adore the technology behind this to make a product like this happen!

Stay tuned for an upcoming informative blog post on skin types, skin concerns in the near future. I’ve been working on this project for a while now but it has been taking me a lot of time to prepare this. Also, feel free to drop off any suggestions of products you would be interested in me to review or something you’ve seen on my Instagram feed that you would like me to do a review on.

[REVIEW] Mamonde Vital Vitamin Essence ~ Bitter Orange

Hello, dear friends! Welcome back to another blog post~ This week’s product review is a product I have been using for 2 months now. Please do not be deceived by the image’s usage because I always take my photo prior to using the product. Who doesn’t love looking at a fresh product? This week’s product is a bit different and unique because I don’t really own anything like this.

Mamonde has a lot of unique products in their skincare and beauty line. There’s a wide range of products to choose from and they have a line for every skin type!

DSC_2586This product was kindly gifted to me from Jolse , in exchange for an honest review. Jolse is one of the most reputable online stores and known for their fantastic discounts, sales and also try-me events. They have a fantastic range of products to choose from along with FREE international delivery. The prices cannot be beaten and they hold one of the most fantastic sale events. Be sure to subscribe to their newsletter and bookmark their website to check for new updates on what deals they have for the week. I’m also a huge mask hoarder and always check out their mask value sets.

Available on: Jolse | Amazon | Yesstyle
100 ml – $22 ~ $32 * varies where you purchase this.

My skin type:

My skin type is combination (oily t-zone, dry cheeks), congested, dehydrated and somewhat sensitive.

Alright, let’s hop on to the product details and what it is shall we?

What is it?

This product is a facial essence. The purpose of having a facial essence in a routine is to prep the skin by beginning the process of cell reproduction. It assists shedding old skin and revealing new skin for an improved and radiant appearance.

This essence is packed with vitamin capsules that evenly distribute and cures dull and dehydrated skin. Its main features are being formulated with bitter orange flower, 7-vitamin complex (Bitter Orange Flower + 6 vitamins necessary to replenish and hydrate the skin), vitamin capsules packed with antioxidants and protect moisture barrier.

The 6 vitamins are B3, B5, C, E, F, and P.

B3 (nicotinamide) and B5 (pantothenic acid) are fantastic for softening the skin, improves the appearance of enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, dullness, and weak skin surface

Vitamin C is one of the most popular ingredients in skin care and known for brightening the skin. It also may be used to combat against acne, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and reduces skin inflammation.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant and effective for soothing skin burns and also diminishing the appearance of scars. It also can combat the effects of toxins in the environment.

Vitamin F is also known as linoleic acid. Linoleic Acid is able to strengthen the skin’s protective barrier and provides moisturizing and soothing benefits.

Vitamin P plays a role in supporting and enhancing the effects of Vitamin C. It helps to repair and renews the skin.

DSC_2587DSC_2588DSC_2589DSC_2590

Overall:

  • Texture: 5/5 – I adore it! I love anything that is in a gel consistency and spreads nicely onto the skin without leaving any sticky residue behind.
  • Scent: 5/5 – There really isn’t much of a scent for this. Maybe there are a tiny bit of citrus notes but I barely smell anything from this product. I do appreciate and enjoy citrus scents but unscented things are fine with me as well.
  • Price: 5/5 – Price is pretty good for the amount that you get! You get 100ml of product, a dispenser that is easy to control the amount of product that comes out. Jolse always has one of the best deals going on so I would highly suggest you head over there and see what deals they have this week.
  • Performance: 3.5/5 – I did enjoy the capsules breaking and disappearing into my skin; the last thing I want is to have random specks of capsule pieces of my face that did not break down evenly or properly.
It was okay, it was moisturizing, however, I did not notice any major brightening results from this. It is marketed to allow makeup to sit better on the skin, diminishes the appearance of dehydrated skin and naturally brightens dull skin. I mean, I chose this essence specifically for brightening purposes because whenever I see the keywords: Vitamin C, Orange, Lemon/Lime, I quickly assume it’s for brightening. If you’re looking for a brightening product, I would highly recommend the Klairs Vitamin Drop Serum . If you’re curious to see my results, please check out my Instagram post where I share a review and before+after shots on the product.
  • Packaging: 3/5 – A tiny bit hard to read the writing from afar and hard to identify what exactly it is but it is gorgeous. I was actually hoping this would be a glass bottle for aesthetics and give it that luxurious appearance to it. The pump works nicely and gets the capsules out. I’ve seen a lot of capsule-based products pump not pumping out the capsules from the bottle but this does.
  • Overall: 3.5/5 –  I like it but not enough to repurchase this and this bottle would probably last me a while anyway. Don’t get me wrong – it was a great product and gave me no irritation or negative reactions, however, the search for a brightening essence will continue. I still very much love Mamonde products and I would recommend you to try this if you’re looking for something that provides extra moisturization to the skin.

[REVIEW] NAISTURE TONE UP CREAM

Hey, hey friends!

I hope you all had a fantastic week so far. I’m just swinging by to share a fantastic new discovery in my skincare/makeup collection. The main reason why I am saying this is because this product is a cross hybrid between the two. It’s a tone up cream! Tone up creams are created to brighten the skin’s complexion and also keeping hydrated at the same time! The application process is quite similar to how you would apply self-tanner on however this is the opposite – where it brightens the skin. I’m sure you’ve seen me feature this a few times on my Instagram feed or even stories before and I’m back today to share my thoughts on this!

DSC_2313.JPG

Available on: Naisture Official Website
Tone-Up Cream – 100g ~ $20 USD

Claims:

This cream is suitable for all skin types – dull, lackluster skin and also can be used on the face and body.
The four top beneficial ingredients are niacinamide, pearl extract, shea butter, licorice root.

Key Ingredients:

Niacinamide: ability to stabilize and tighten your skin barrier + visibly shrinks the appearance of pores and diminishes skin dullness.

Pearl Extract: This extract is from freshwater pearl and is used for various things such as medicine and also skincare. This Ingredient gives the skin a healthy glow and instantly brightens it.

Shea Butter: is a very common ingredient in skincare in rich in fatty acids and vitamins to nourish and soften the skin. Shea Butter has healing properties and also acts as an anti-inflammatory. It can condition, repair and soothe the skin.

Licorice Root Extract: This is a very popular plant extract that provides the skin soothing properties. The extract is potent with antioxidants and can protect the skin.

Ingredients:

Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Cyclopentasiloxane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Propanediol, Cyclohexasiloxane, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Polysorbate 60, Glyceryl Stearate, Titanium Dioxide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Pearl Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Disodium EDTA, Carbomer, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, PEG-100 Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Oleth-10, Adenosine, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Simethicone, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Aluminum Hydroxide, Tocopheryl Acetate, Dimethicone, Arginine, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Isohexadecane, Polysorbate 80, Sorbitan Oleate, Pentylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

My thoughts:

I find this tone up cream a lot more moisturizing compared to many of the tone-up creams I’ve tried in the past. Most tone-up creams have a very dry paste-like texture and tend to leave the skin slightly tacky. This cream was the least tacky of the bunch and was comfortable to wear for long periods of the day. I did a hand wash test with this cream on both my hands and it lasted for about 3-4 hand washes before it started to fade off, which is quite impressive! This can be worn with makeup on top however I like to wear this particular tone-up cream alone on top of my SPF and some powder for a “lighter” makeup day. The older I get, the more I realize I don’t really want to cover up my uneven skin tone. Instead of covering up, why not try to reduce it by being consistent with skincare? So that’s what I did, I decided to care for my skin a lot more and I’m seeing a bigger difference in texture and my dark spots are less prominent.

Back to this tone-up cream, here are before and after photos of the effectiveness of it. My left hand has the tone-up cream and my right does not have anything on it. See the difference?

DSC_2541

Overall:

  • Texture: 5/5 – The texture for this is easy to work with and applies nicely into the skin. Some tone-up cream require a bit of work massaging in the product evenly into the skin for an even application – I had no issues using this and it worked like a charm.
  • Scent: 5/5 – No recognizable scent – I smell something very faint – almost like flowers but as you massage it in the skin, the faint scent turns into nothing. This would be ideal for those who are sensitive to scents or dislike having fragrance in their products. It smells like nothing to me.
  • Price: 5/5 – Reasonable. For 20 dollars, 100g of this will last you a long time before you need to repurchase. You only really need a pea size for the face.
  • Performance: 5/5 – Worked exactly how I expected to work and I’m thankful that it was drying or emphasized my texture.
  • Packaging: 3/5 – Practical. You guys know I prefer jar packaging but this works fine. I’m just a bit concerned when I’m near the end of the product that it will be difficult to squeeze out. I’m not a fan of cutting my products open to dig in it either.
  • Overall: 4/5 – This is an affordable, moisturizing and effective tone-up cream! What more can you ask for? I love it, I’m going to repurchase this for sure once I’m finished with it. It’s very similar to the april skin snow tone-up cream but gives less of a pasty, dry texture and glides onto the skin amazingly! Plus, feels moisturizing.

[REVIEW] IOPE BIO ESSENCE ~ INTENSIVE CONDITIONING

Good morning, friends. I hope you had a fantastic start to your week. I wanted to come on here and share a product I have been trying out for the past 3 weeks. Don’t be deceived by the amount I used – these are photos I shot when I first got it. I also used this before I got a chance to take a perfectly new bottle.

Question for you all before I begin my review, do you take photos of everything you first get?

I try my best to take pictures of brand new products but it’s just so exciting to open new products sometimes. I’m sure some of you can understand and relate, haha!

Alright, so today’s product we will be talking about the Iope Bio Essence ~ Intensive Conditioning. This was kindly gifted to me through Meibe Korea in exchange for an honest review of the product.

Iope Bio Essence – Intensive Conditioning
Available at: eBayMeibe Korea|Amazon – Prime CA | Amazon US
168 ml ~ prices may vary where you decide to purchase this.

Claims:

This is a water-based essence that helps strengthen the skin and to create a clear and smooth appearance. This essence can quickly absorb into the skin and able to penetrate deeply into the skin; which allows long-lasting moisture to the skin. This contains advance Bio-Redox A components that recharge the skin natural strength on a daily basis so that skin becomes strong against time or changes in the environment. This essence also evens out skin oil and moisture balance. For long-term use, it provides conditioning, wrinkle-improvement, and whitening.

My thoughts:

There’s a lot of essences in the market and I’ve tried quite a few. The two popular ones I’ve tried were the Missha fte and also SK-II fte, both were alright. I personally found this did more for my skin than both of those two individually and possibly, combined. My skin instantly felt hydrated the moment I applied this onto my skin and absorbed so quickly! After 2 weeks of continuous use of this product, I noticed my skin was so much plumper, brighter and made product absorption a lot quicker + easier. The reason why I believe this was the product that allowed my skin to absorb more product is that this was the only product I changed and added to my existing skincare routine and even facial oils absorbed a lot faster into my skin when I use this. I usually rely on cotton pads when I am using toners, eye makeup remover, and micellar water but for essences, I like to dose it directly on my face so I don’t have any wasted product. (Yes, I’m serious. It may sound silly but it works and the thought of no wasted products brings me joy, ha!)

TIP: Pour small amounts of the essence on your hand, apply on face then pat and repeat if you need more. If you pour out too much, you make spill some off your hands.
Out of the essences, I’ve tried I prefer this one out of all of them. I would most likely repurchase this because it works best for me!

  • Texture: 5/5 – It’s exactly what it’s named. Micro essence, it’s like water but thinner in consistency. It’s super lightweight feeling and absorbs beautifully into the skin without making it looks wet or leaving any residue/water drips behind.
  • Scent: 5/5 – There is no scent to this and this is for those who are sensitive to scent/prefer to have no scent in their products. It also does not have that ferment scent like SK-II FTE does.
  • Price: 5/5 – I personally think the price is reasonable for what you’re getting. It’s really well made and is a fraction of the cost of many expensive essences out in the market. This will last you a while before you need a replenishment. I’ve had mine for 3 months and barely am halfway in my bottle. I also use this about 4-5 days a week so it has been lasting me for a while now.
  • Performance: 4/5 –  My skin is usually really dull and dehydrated, along with a lot of congestion issues going on around my t-zone. I find this product alone helps other products I apply on my face absorb more faster. Facial oil tends to sit on my face for a while before they absorb in properly and I find this essence allows my skin to drink up the skincare products I decide to apply on. How awesome is that?!
  • Packaging: 5/5 – Packaging feels luxurious and made of a frosted glass bottle with a metal bottle cap, everything is easy to read and clear. There’s a good weight and feel to it but do be careful because it’s made of glass and is fragile.
  • Overall: 4/5 – I would repurchase this and would recommend you to try this if you were interested in getting into facial essences. It’s a great addition to a skincare routine!

Well, that’s it for today! Please feel free to comment below if you have any questions about this product or a product you would like me to try and review for you. I’ll try my best to get it ~ Have yourself a wonderful day!

This is a gel-based formula eyeshadow stick that allows you slide, glide and blend this effortlessly. It’s also smudge-free! This is a metallic bronze colour and is perfect for everyday wear! I’ve tried a handful of eyeshadow sticks and this one is really comparable to the Laura Mercier ones but for a fraction of the cost!

Dr. Gloderm – Eye Mask Night

Retails for $3

This is a hydro-gel mask that provides hydration and an amazing cooling effect on the skin while brightening the skin! If you subscribed to February’s box, be sure to use the jelly mist prior to the sheet mask for full cooling and calming results. Apply this mask and leave it on for 20 minutes, be sure to pat the remaining essence until fully absorbed onto the skin.

My thoughts

Overall, I think this box is worth its value, there were two familiar brands. I knew of pony effect along with milimage, the rest were new brands to me but I thought it was a fantastic experience since there were new brands in this box and it’s an excellent way to experiment and try new products! I also forgot to include the Commleaf  Surely Green 100 Face Oil Mini and it was a sample size and the value is $4. I already own the full size of this product and absolutely adore it!

Subscription Prices:

One time box: $35.95
Monthly box: $35.95
3 months: $105.95 (Save $2 from monthly)
6 months: $207.95 (Save $8 compared to monthly)

The total value of my box was: $63! That’s pretty much like double of what you pay for the box. I think it’s a great deal and worth a shot if you’re interested in trying out new K-Beauty products.
